Trip #44
August 15-September 5, 2023
This trip took us to Southern Oregon (with a day trip to Calif), up the coast, inland to the Willamette Valley, and to the northern edge of the coast range. Five OR State Parks, two wineries, and a National Forest Campground in 21 nights. We also visited with our three oldest grandchildren along the way.
I had two goals for this trip: to see Fern Canyon in the Redwoods National Park and to get some experience dry camping.
For the first 16 nights we had no sewer hookup and rarely any dump station nearby. Six of these nights were without any utilities, including the first night where it was 103 degrees. Thankfully it was cooler on the Oregon Coast. And I have a generator.
Fern Canyon is inside Prarie Creek Redwoods State Park which is inside Redwoods National Park. My photos don’t do it justice.
An equally impressive hike is Clear Creek just east of Florence, Oregon. The trail is an easy two mile out and back with multiple water falls. It is very busy in the summer, especially on the weekend.
We ended the trip with a stay at the luxurious (full hookups) Stub Stewart.
