Harris Beach and Cape Blanco

Trip #47

This twelve day trip was the final excursion for 2023. The plan was a one night stop at a Roseburg winery, three nights at Cape Blanco, seven nights at Harris Beach in Brookings, and one more night at another Roseburg winery.

The southern Oregon Coast usually enjoys decent weather in December with temps in the mid 50’s to low 60’s. There is some rain, but not usually every day. This year saw several atmospheric rivers in the first 10 days of the month. Some of the coast saw 17 inches of rain during this period with over four inches in a 24 hour period.

This first night (November 30) was mostly dry for our stay at Giradet Vineyards and Winery. They have nice campsites with electric/water hookups for a fee or with a purchase of several bottles. We recommend stopping here for the wine and/or camping experience. www.girardetwine

Cape Blanco was bust as far as walking through the park or on beaches. I think we got five or six inches of rain in 72 hours to go along with the 25-35mph winds.

There were some breaks in the weather at Harris Beach. We we able to explore the tidal pools and go into town several times. This one of our favorite beaches.

Brookings also has excellent pizza at Zolas On The Water. Make sure to try their breadsticks, especially the Big Z. tripadvisor Zolas

Oxenfre Public House is another favorite. Keep in mind it is a Pub. see tripadvisor Oxenfre_Public_House-Brookings_Or

We finished the trip with a one night stay at Tugman State Park instead another winery due to a soggy campsite and a scheduling conflict with the host.

An end of year summary for 2023 will be published soon.
