L.L. Stub Stewart

Trip #52

L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park was named after the late Loren LaSells “Stub” Stewart, a long-time supporter of the Oregon State Parks, an Oregon State legislator, philanthropist, and President of Bohemia Lumber Company. The park, opened in 2007, covers 1500 plus acres of woods and trails and is in Washington County-about 30 miles west of Portland and 10 miles south of Vernonia. It is close to the mid-point of the Banks Vernonia Trail, Oregon’s first rails to trails path.

This was the first park we visited with our trailer in January 2020. We have now stayed here eighteen times for a total of 85 nights.

We love:

*the proximity to our storage site and home

*the well-kept, level, full hook up campsites

*miles of hiking and biking trails

*11 miles to a Mexican restaurant

The park fills up in the summer but does not feel crowded.  For July and August, I would make reservations a few months ahead.  We got lucky and scored a cancellation the week of July 4th.
