Clackamas County

Trip #53

As far as adventure trips, this scored low. Our total mileage was just over 100. The focus of the trip was to visit with some of the grandkids at their church campout. Before and after we had some time to kayak the Clackamas river.

We stayed at two Clackamas County Parks, Barton and Metzler. Both are near Milo McIver State Park (Oregon).

Barton is a little more modern and suited for RVs more than tents. (Metzler is the opposite.) Barton is on the Clackamas River. This is a popular destination with people who float from Barton to Carver. Some also start farther up at McIver Park. The river is shallow this time of year, so an inflatable boat was not the best choice.

If you don’t have two vehicles, an alternative to staging one is to take the Carver/Barton shuttle. This summer they run 1-8pm everyday (see flyer).
