Accidental Winter Camping

A short February trip to the Oregon coast provided a chance to practice our winter camping skills.

We had planned for four nights at Nehalem Bay State park and four nights at Cape Lookout State Park. Low to mid 40s and some rain was forecast for the coast and some snow in the coastal mountains.

By day five we decided to book two extra nights to avoid driving home in the snow.

We did not expect: ten inches of snow, power outages, and failures of our: generator, water pump, and electric heater.

We drove home on day 11 (February 25) detouring around several closed roads, using seven highways and 60 extra miles.

I am glad that trip is behind us. Our next trip is in three days.
