Central Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota….
May 21 through July 7, 2026
This was our longest trip so far, 47 nights. We spent our first two nights with family in Washington state and drove through Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming on our way to the highpoint of the trip, South Dakota.
We usually take one long trip each year of about 30 days. For this trek we had one main goal, Custer State Park in South Dakota. We also wanted to enjoy the scenery so our plan was less stops, less side trips, and a few days doing nothing.
We still drove through a couple National Parks, Monuments, and Preserves (including The City Of Rocks for the first time).
To keep costs down, we mooch docked twice and visited seven Harvest Host locations.
We spent our nation’s 250th birthday at Unity Lake State Recreation Area near Unity, Oregon.
